HONOR BELL TO TOLL ON FIRST WORLD WAR REMEMBRANCE DAY

The Honor Bell carries on a long legacy of tolling in remembrance of those we have lost. Therefore, it’s only fitting that we will be a part of the centennial remembrance of the end of World War I. That day, November 11th, 1918, eventually became known by a name more familiar to many of us: Veterans Day. This year we will be tolling specifically in remembrance of those who lost their lives in the Great War a hundred years ago, and celebrate the sacrifice of all veterans.

The World War One Centennial Commission — along with the Pritzker Military Museum & Library, the Society of the Honor Guard of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the National Cathedral, The American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign Wars — has announced a nationwide bell-tolling on Nov. 11 as a solemn reminder of the sacrifice and service of veterans of the Great War, and all veterans. As part of the “Bells of Peace: A World War One Remembrance” event, the Honor bell will toll 11 times at 11 a.m. Mountain Time on Sunday November 11th. This is the first time in the bell’s history that is has been tolled more than the traditional seven times at a ceremony.

The Honor Bell will be performing its tolling at Fort Logan National Cemetery, where additional Veterans Day remembrances will also be held.
